Cayamo cruise was an absolute thrill this year! The incredible duo Barnaby Bright (Nathan & Becky Bliss) acted as my band & absolutely blew me away. Singing with Becky was a dream of mine since the day I first heard her voice. Nathan played bass and brought a great dynamic to each song. Gus played electric guitar and arranged for one of our favorite drummers, Marco Giovino, to accompany us on a few shows. What a treat to share the stage with them.
Seth Glier & I loved debuting a song we recently wrote together called "If I Could Change One Thing". Later, the legendary David Bromberg played a mean solo on my blues song, "Go On". David then invited me to sing with him on a few of his own shows and boy, was that fun!! David is a legendary guitar player and singing with him, Nancy Bromberg and Theresa Williams was an honor.
In a week's time I heard so many voices, songs and stories that moved me. The stories of Chuck Cannon repeatedly brought me to tears. I'm anxious to reading his new book. John Fullbright absolutely blew me away with his musicianship and songwriting. As for voices, wow... Lennon & Maisy are only 9 and 14-years-old and their voices in harmony absolutely melt my heart. If these musicians are touring through your area, absolutely do not miss the chance to see and hear them live!!
The icing on the cake was being a fly on the wall while Buddy Miller, Lee Ann Womack & Kris Kristofferson record in the belly of the boat. Buddy turned the bowling alley into a recording studio and magic was made there.
I'm still on cloud nine. Very few up and coming acts have the chance to play Cayamo two years in a row and I feel incredibly lucky to have had that opportunity. Thank you Sixthman for the trip of a lifetime! And thank you to the music fans who make it all possible. It's a joy playing for you, laughing with you and standing in the soft-serve line with you. Hope to do it all again sometime.
